Tip outs with awning over them

by Debi Ward

Question: Do the tipouts leak very often. Ours has an awning over it and I am afraid that the wind will blow the rain in under the awning and it will leak into the motorhome. Is this a common problem and should I put the tipout in if it is pedicting rain?

Robbie: Great Question: A slide out topper is primary for keeping dirt and leaves from gathering on top of the slide out and not just keeping water out (it does help).

Your slide should be sealed from the elements rather in or out. If you have a leak when it's extended then you should have the rubber gaskets inspected.

If your slide is leaking during a heavy rain retracting it could stop the leak until you have it repaired, but I wouldn't just depend on closing the slide every time it rained.

Good Luck,
Robbie
